Homogenization in micro-plasticity
نویسنده
چکیده
Homogenized descriptions of plasticity on microand macro-scale are essentially different. A key distinction is that the energy of micron-size specimens, in contrast to that of macrospecimens, is not a functional of integral characteristics of the dislocation networks. Thus, energy must be considered as an independent characteristic of the body which is additional to all other characteristics. In this paper, a homogenized description of dislocation motion on the micro-scale is proposed. The theory is considered for the case of anti-plane constrained shear which admits an analytical treatment. r 2005 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Thermodynamics of rate-independent plasticity
We show that the singular dissipative potential of the phenomenological rate-independent plasticity can be obtained by homogenization of a micro-model with quadratic dissipation. The essential ingredient making this reduction possible is a rugged energy landscape at the micro-scale, generating under external loading a regular cascade of subcritical bifurcations. Such landscape may appear as a r...
متن کاملA consistent homogenization theory and the numerical implementation of a higher order plasticity model from meso to macro
Classical plasticity models, being scale independent, cannot capture any size depedent behavior. A remedy is to adopt a gradient plasticity model at the sub-granular (meso) scale to account for the different micro-processes leading to the various size effects. In this contribution, we adopt, at the meso scale, the isotropic gradient plasticity model in [1] which incorporated the plasticity rota...
متن کاملOn damage theory of a cohesive medium
A micro-mechanics damage model is proposed based on homogenization of penny-shaped cohesive micro-cracks (Barenblatt–Dugdale type) in a three dimensional representative volume element. By assuming that macro-hydrostatic stress state has dominant effect on permanent crack opening, a class of pressure sensitive yielding potentials and corresponding damage evolution laws have been derived. The mer...
متن کاملA penny-shaped cohesive crack model for material damage
A novel micromechanics based damage model is proposed to address failure mechanism of defected solids with randomly distributed penny-shaped cohesive micro-cracks (Barenblatt–Dugdale type). Energy release contribution to the material damage process is estimated in a representative volume element (RVE) under macro hydrostatic stress state. Macro-constitutive relations of RVE are derived via self...
متن کاملOn a Multiscale Computational Strategy with Time and Space Homogenization for Structural Mechanics
A new multiscale computational strategy was recently proposed for the analysis of structures described both on a fine space scale and a fine time scale. This strategy, which involves homogenization in space as well as in time, could replace in several domains of application the standard homogenization techniques, which are generally limited to the space domain. It is an iterative strategy which...
